Author visits are one thing that I really enjoy! Being back
in the classroom with the students is natural for me after sixteen
years of teaching.
Tailoring presentations according to grade level will provide
the children with the experience of sharing ideas, interacting
with their peers and engaging in the active experience of writing
and reading.
Specific curriculum presentations can vary from story telling,
to writing, and developing the process of how a story comes to
life!
Group size of presentations may vary. However, smaller groups
personalize activities and provide more participation and interaction
on the part of the students.
Please contact me for more detailed
information to plan your "special" author visit. |

"Alva Libert Sachs was exceptionally wonderful when interacting with After-School All-Stars, Los Angeles students at a reading event hosted at Cesar Chavez Elementary. She was poised, personable, and really knew how to connect with kids in a friendly manner and on an intelligent level. Alva kept the students engaged during her book reading and also presented great questions for the kids, which were both thought provoking and age-appropriate. Alva had fun activities for students and was gracious in giving each child a fun pencil and bookmark; a nice token for children who come from deserving communities. A continued thanks to Alva… she is a true STAR! " |

"Alva conducted a fabulous workshop for Kindergartners and First Graders at our annual Authors & Illustrators Night. Not only did she make it delightful for her young students, who were given the task of creating their dream birthday party through the written word, but she made our job as organizers nearly effortless. Alva was responsive to our requests and worked with us to create a truly unforgettable evening." |

"Ms. Sachs, Thank you for the wonderful author read-aloud presentation. Our
students were excited to meet a real and published author. I am especially
grateful for your thoughtful consideration in bringing a "Big Book" version of
your book, "I'm 5." The students were all able to see and enjoy the story that
way. Thank you also for being so accommodating and accepting of ALL our students.
You were gracious and patient and did a wonderful job keeping the kindergartners
and Pre-K students focused. The students loved getting to meet you and hearing
the beautiful story. Please come back any time!" |

"Mrs.
Figs' Bookworm was blessed with a visit from award-winning
children's author, Alva Sachs. Not only did Alva come prepared
to enthusiastically share her three incredible books, bookmarks
and engaging activities, Alva came with a special gift…a
spirited, yet gentle way of relating to, and inspiring
children. I now know why our city library chose Alva as
a featured author at our upcoming annual children's literacy
event, "BookFest." Thank you, Alva, for sharing your gifts
and talents, and for being a blessing to so many children!" |

"I
just wanted to say, "thanks" and to let you know what a
fun and interactive presentation you gave for our school.
The students were so engaged and involved during your readings!
They loved hearing about the plot and action of the skateboard
making and contest in "On Your Mark, Get Set, Go!". The
children really connected to Jessica's adventures at the
Big Top in "Circus Fever" and loved making their own Circus
Fever Quilt! I think most of the students went home dreaming
about joining the circus that night! Thanks for the unique
activity sheets for each grade level... each one inspired
the children to be creative, use their imagination, and
to think about becoming a writer and illustrator! Thanks
again for your clever way of presenting the books and sharing
with our school about becoming an author!" |

"Do
you remember what is was like to be excited about the circus?
Maybe you have a little one who looks forward to the Circus
when it comes to town. Circus Fever by Alva Sachs is a
delightful story about a little girl named Jessica who
is excited about the Circus! She just can't wait and is
so excited! Young children will LOVE this story! My son
loved the imagination of the character Jessica. The illustrations
by Patricia Krebs are colorful and amazing and makes the
delightful story come to life. This story will quickly
become a bedtime story (or anytime!) favorite. For more
information, check out the Author's website!
I love the section on the website for kids." |

"Hi
Alva! I am a kindergarten teacher at Charlton Elementary
School in Charlton, Massachusetts. Our school has a Family
Reading Night event in March and I have selected your book,
Circus Fever, to read. I printed some of the activity sheets
from your website for each child that attends the event.
I will be decorating my classroom using a circus theme
and I will be making circus goodie bags for each child.
The bags will have blank booklets for the children to write
and illustrate their own circus stories, circus stickers,
clown rings, etc. We will also have bags of popcorn and
a raffle.
I decided to choose a book with a circus theme. So I went
to Amazon.com and searched for circus books. I wanted to
choose one that was available if parents decided to buy
one for their child after the event. I was impressed when
I saw your book. I liked the story, the illustrations and
it seemed to be perfect for the event especially for students
in kindergarten and first grade. Your book fit the theme
and would work with the other ideas that I had for the
event such as circus decorations, clown balloons, a raffle
of a circus related item, bags of popcorn, a photo booth
and a special circus gift bag containing items to promote
literacy such as a journal booklet for writing and drawing,
activity sheets, clown pencils, etc.. I found your website
and was happy to discover activity sheets related to the
book that I could print. I was thrilled to see the online
activities for kids. It was at that time that I decided
that Circus Fever would be my choice for my thirty-minute
part of the reading event. I am very excited about using
your book!
Our goal is to promote literacy and a love for books. The
event should be lots of fun.
Thank you for writing such a great book." |

"I
have had author Alva Sachs visit the Simi Valley Library
several times to share her books with budding authors.
The children are able to create writing and art projects
as well as the wonderful chance to meet a real life author!
Alva is warm and caring, taking time for each child to
enjoy the occasion. I will most certainly invite her back

"The
author visit from Alva Sachs to our school during the week
long celebration of Read Across America Day 2010 was a
true highlight of the week! Great enthusiasm, combined
with creative and fun activities for the students, all
made for an amazing day! She presented her two children's
books in an age appropriate fashion to the various grade
levels, capturing the attention of the students. A wonderful
woman and author to work with and I highly recommend her
to any elementary school. It was an honor and privilege
to hear her speak and to now carry her two books as part
of our library collection! " |

"It
was a great pleasure to have Alva at our school site during
the Westminster Author's Festival. There are close to 900
students at our school site and Alva was more than willing
to meet and greet with all of our classes. She was nothing
less than than accommodating and exceptional. Her demeanor
with each grade level was wonderful. The kids were engaged
and excited to be learning more about great story writing
and letting their imagination run wild. Students of all
grade levels wanted to keep on writing for weeks to come.
We are looking forward to having her back in 2011! Thank
you for such an amazing experience!" |

"On
behalf of the Skirball, I want to thank you for participating
in the Monsters & Miracles Family Day program. The
program was a great success! The Skirball saw high numbers
of visitors to the museum, received positive comments from
both the visitors and staff, and the space was always alive
with joyful families. The Skirball strives to provide our
visitors with unique experiences they can find only at
the Skirball. Your appearance helped contribute to our
goal. It was a treat to have you read for the Family Day
program and judging from the crowds and the positive comments
we will continue to have you back again.
What I enjoyed was that Family Day participants got the
chance to hear and see an author bring to life a book while
spending the day with a loved one. I greatly appreciate
your dedication and time in helping to make the program
shine. I look forward to working with you again." |

visit to our pre-school was an exciting experience for
the young authors and illustrators in our classroom. The
children were very excited to meet a real life author and
listen to her story. Alva was great, taking time to listen

"I
had the pleasure of meeting Alva Sachs when she did a story
time at Barnes & Noble. Setting the stage to read her
delightful book, Circus Fever, Alva arrived with balloons,
a life size clown cut-out, bookmarks, coloring, and activity
sheets. With her props, high energy, and caring manner
Alva created a festive and memorable experience for all.
Alva has already returned for a second successful story
time with her book, On Your Mark, Get Set Go!. In addition
to story time, Alva is a great resource for writing workshops,
author and educator events both in and out of the classroom,
and book fairs. I highly recommend working with Alva!" |
